DIZZY SUSHI NEEDS YOU!

by mel

dizzy-cover-8bIt isn’t every day I send a plea for help, but in order to get DIZZY SUSHI PUBLISHED I am asking you to consider a donation. My co-publisher has earmarked $1800 towards the printing of 1000 beautiful copies and I need to match that amount in 2 weeks in order to go to press.  That’s $3 each to print a 350-page soft cover book, and $500 to license an awesome photo of a Dizzy Sushi conveyor belt. If I can raise the money in 2 weeks, it is very likely DIZZY will be in stores in time for the all-important holidays!

You don’t need a PayPal account to donate. Just go to www.paypal.com, select SEND MONEY to send your donation to melissajwhite[at]gmail.com using your credit or debit card. Thank you in advance for your very kind donation!

More great info on maple leaves from japan-guide.com: “Each year, starting in mid September, the ‘koyo (colorful leaves) front’ slowly moves southwards from the northern island of Hokkaido until it reaches the lower elevations of central and southern Japan towards the end of November.”

Akiko Yosano Tankas Approved

by mel

Translator Sanford Goldstein has graciously allowed me to reprint Akiko Yosano’s tankas in Dizzy Sushi.

Those Plum Blossoms in the poem
You wrote at parting—
They weren’t on your mind. . .
Last autumn she was the one
Leaning against this post

On that cold morning
in Kyoto,
Frozen stiff,
The tip of the writing brush
Borrowed to paint my lips!
